For this video, I took a short section from one of my solo live performances and used it as the starting point for a studio arrangement.
The original clip was just one person playing live. From there, I gradually added slide guitar, extra guitar layers, drums, and bass, until the performance started to feel more like a full band arrangement.
The goal wasn’t to replace the original live take. I wanted to keep the feel, timing, and character of the performance, while bringing out some of the musical ideas that were already inside it. --------------------------------
The first thing I added was slide guitar. There wasn’t a complicated reason for that — the slide melody was simply the first thing I heard in my head when I listened back to the clip.
Since the original performance already had vocals and guitar, I tried to make sure the slide part didn’t get in the way. I wanted it to fill the spaces naturally, almost like another musician was playing along in the room, rather than something added on top later.
After that, I started programming the drums... Full breakdown: how I put it together, what I did, and why
